RECORDING AND DAMPING VIBRATIONS

Regular vortex shedding and aerostatic instabilities can give rise to vibrations lateral to the wind direction. For certain measurement ranges and for systems with not much structural damping, these vibrations can be a decisive design criterion. Such vibrations often adversely affect the usefulness or the stability of a building.

For vibration damping, Nießing has developed its own systems which can be adjusted to suit variable physical and architectonic requirements and are at the same time functionally extremely safe. Increasing the damping solves the instability problem – the dynamic behaviour of each and every single vibration damper manufactured is measured on a special test-bench in laboratory trials and recorded on an individual acceptance report.

The damping effect is based on the sloshing effect of a liquid which dissipates ("disperses") the vibration energy of the building in specially-dimensioned chambers.
